Blessed Sacrament Church offers religious education for children from Preschool through the 5th grade. Middle school youth participate in Edge programs and High school youth are part of the Life Teen program. Our focus is both knowledge about our faith and development of personal spirituality for our young people. In preschool and kindergarten, children are instructed in Bible stories of both the Old and New Testaments. In Grades 1-5, the curriculum is centered upon in-depth Catholic doctrine in relationship to both scripture and daily life application. In Grades 6-8, children delve deeper into the sacraments, creed, liturgy, worship, prayer, and spirituality. We have weekley gatherings called Edge nights to begin to build community and personal spirituality. The Edge nights take place following the Life Teen mass on Sundays. High school Life nights follow the weekly Life Teen mass.

Pre-Kinder through 5th grade and EDGE Middle School meet on Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

High School LIFE TEEN meet Sunday evenings, after the 5:00 pm LIFE TEEN Mass.

What this ministry can do for you:
The Faith Development Ministry not only builds the faith lives of our children but also prepares them for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist (First Holy Communion). These sacraments are received normally in the 2nd grade and encompass both the children in Faith Development and parishioner's children who attend Blessed Sacrament School. Sacrament preparation is open to older children (Grades 3-8) who may have missed a sacrament. Call the parish office for information regarding older children who need baptism. Confirmation is celebrated in the 10th grade within the Life Teen program. The Faith Development Ministry also provides a wonderful opportunity for older teens and adults to become involved as volunteer Catechists, teaching our children the ways of our faith.

Membership Profile:
There were approximately 300 children who attended our elementary program during the 2009-2010 academic year. There were 20 wonderful Catechists who instructed our children on Sunday mornings. 67 children received the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Age Group:
Children must be age 4 by September 1, 2010, to enter our program and still enrolled in the twelfth grade in standard educational facilities to continue involvement in our program. Children attending Blessed Sacrament School or any other parochial school in the area will receive catechesis during their school day and do not need to attend Faith Development Classes. Only those in need of sacrament preparation will need to be involved with our program.

Restrictions:
You must be a registered member of Blessed Sacrament parish to enroll your child(ren) in the Faith Development Ministry. Registration forms are available through the parish office. We will also be glad to personally mail a registration form for 2010-2011 to any parishioner who did not receive a form through our April registration period.

Meetings: Grades Pre-K-5: Sundays (11:00-12:00 PM)
Life Teen Mass Sunday 5:00PM
Middle School: EDGE Sunday mornings (11:00am-noon every week)

A yearly calendar will be sent home with each child on his/her first day of class. Further information concerning parent sacramental preparation, assemblies, etc. will be sent home in a parent handbook by October 1, 2010.

Current Needs:
There is always a strong need for Catechists (teachers) at all grade levels, especially with our middle school children. Catechists and core members are provided with a detailed teacher guide and training.

You do not need to have any teaching experience to be a catechist. We will make every effort to place you with an experienced catechist for your first year. You may choose to teach your own child and to work with a friend as a co-teacher.

Substitutes, office help, and presenters for our communion workshops are also needed. For a complete list of volunteer opportunities, please contact our office.

Special Events:
Registration Deadline: Friday, September 10, 2010.
(Only registrations from new parishioners will be taken after this date.)

Sacrament Orientation: Sunday, October 3, 11:00-12:00 PM Banquet Hall
This is an information meeting for parents of both Faith Development and Catholic School children. All requirements for reception of the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist will be presented at this meeting.
